NaPoWriMo Day 16: “Our Downfall”

Day 16 of NaPoWriMo! Are you all exhausted already?

Today’s prompt: write a terzanelle. One of the things I love about this challenge: you learn new words every day! (and you can forget about pdf formatting problems for a while)

Our Downfall

A knight came in from the sea
In a stormy summer’s night
No horse, no sword, no way to go

The maiden was sowing a dress
Colors as bright as the sun
In a stormy summer’s night

Farmers were working on the field
Swinging scythes, cutting the crops
Colors as bright as the sun

He pleaded for mercy,
She didn’t listen
Swinging scythes, cutting the crops

Back home they found
A new hand to rule the land
She didn’t listen

Had she shown mercy
We’d all still be safe
A new hand to rule the land
Does not mean peace, you see.

PS: Yes, I might have watches too much Game of Thrones
